Strategic Alliances

The Pushback Network is a national collaboration of indigenous, grassroots organizations and networks committed to building bottom-up, state-based alliances that change both the composition and levels of participation of the electorate. We emphasize strategies to empower underrepresented constituencies: people of color, poor and working class communities, and young people.

 

New York Is Our Home is a city wide coalition of grassroots organizations and networks working on housing issues. Millions of New Yorkers cannot afford a decent place to live. The most recent City data shows that 26% of New York City renters pay at least half of their income for rent. Thousands of affordable units in Mitchell-Lama and Section 8 buildings are being lost every year, public housing is being squeezed, and hundreds of thousands of rent-stabilized apartments have been lost to vacancy decontrol. With so many groups working in the city to fight against these trends we decided to form a coalition to stand up and say "New York Is Our Home" and we will not be priced out of our home.

 

Grassroots Global Justice is an alliance of U.S.-based grassroots groups who are organizing to build an agenda for power for working and poor people. We understand that there are important connections between the local issues we work on and the global context, and we see ourselves as part of an international movement for global justice.

 

Center for Community Change works to establish and develop community organizations across the country, bring attention to major national issues related to poverty, and help make sure that government programs are responsive to community needs. In addition, the Center has catalyzed grassroots coalitions that were instrumental in the creation of the federal Food Stamps Program, the enactment of the Community Reinvestment Act, the growth of Community Development Corporations, and the large-scale preservation of affordable housing.

 

New York Jobs with Justice is a dynamic long-term, multi-issue coalition of labor, community, student, and faith based organizations working together in New York City to transform and democratize our communities. We take action to level the playing field by building power for poor and working class people, supporting sustainable development, and demanding an end to corporate greed and economic inequality. We work to re-establish basic freedoms in the work place and promote social, racial, and economic justice for all New Yorkers.
