CVH Members Question SFC Deal in Yonkers

CVH members in Yonkers demanded to know who would monitor a land disposition agreement between the city and Struever Fidelco Cappelli (SFC). Members have pushed for the construction of affordable housing as a part of the development that would include 1400 housing units, in addition to a new baseball stadium and hotel. CVH member Walter Lipscomb was among those in attendance at a Yonkers City Council Real Estate Committee meeting where final terms were discussed. Yonkers members recently brought attention to the fact that the city was not properly monitoring money that is supposed to benefit low-income communities. CVH Board member Valerie Pearson and leader Annette Arthur were featured in an article in the Lower Hudson Valley newspaper, and commended for bringing the situation to the reporter's attention.

CVH Welcomes Juanita Lewis as New Yonkers Chapter Organizer

CVH is excited to welcome Juanita Lewis as our new Community Organizer for Westchester County!  Juanita comes to CVH from St. Paul, Minnesota and a background in political organizing.  She recently completed her Master's Degree in Advocacy and Political Leadership at the University of Minnesota-Duluth.  She is eager and enthusiastic about her forthcoming work at CVH and has already met with several member leaders in Yonkers!

CVH Members Meet With Commissioner David Hansell

CVH members from all four chapters across the state met with Office of Temporary and Disability Assistance Commissioner David Hansell on Thursday September 11th in Yonkers. Members shared there stories with Commissioner Hansell. Some of the topics of discussion at this meeting were Career Pathways and Transistional Job programs.

Members asked talked about the need to Raise the Welfare Grant and to reform the Sanctioning process as well as improvements that could be made with Transitional Benefits. 

CVH is Organizing a Housing Forum in Yonkers

CVH is organizing a housing forum to demand that the city council commit to preserving and creating more low-income housing and jobs for low-income Yonkers residents in the plans for re-development.
